Promoting Health and Wellness of All Children
While Florida Hospial for Children is well known for making the sick well again, we also work hard to keep children from becoming sick in the first place. Prevention and wellness are a big focus of the hospital and its community outreach efforts. Programs such as the SuperFit Family Challenge helps school-age children and their families learn good health habits together, so they can support one another as they learn more about nutrition, portion control and the importance of regular exercise.
Promoting Good Nutrition
Childhood obesity and diabetes have become a top concern for parents, physicians and those caring for children. Today almost a third of all children are either overweight or at the risk of being overweight and one of every 400 children has diabetes. One of the best ways to promote health and wellness in children is to teach them good nutritional skills that will eventually become lifelong habits. This includes the importance of fruits and vegetables, avoiding sugared beverages and snacks and eating balanced meals regularly throughout the day.
