Dennis Hernandez, MD, FAAP, FACEP
Medical Director of Emergency Medicine
Board certified in both general pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine, Dr. Hernandez oversees a highly trained team of emergency department (ED) specialists and ensures that the hospital responds quickly and correctly when a child is experiencing an emergency. Through his efforts as well as those of his team, the hospital hopes to create an ED that is the benchmark of excellence in health care.
Education and Experience
Dr. Hernandez earned his medical degree from Montemorelos University School of Medicine, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. His pediatric residency was completed at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he also served as Chief Resident. He then completed a fellowship program in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the University of South Florida, Tampa General Hospital. He is board certified in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
He is considered one of the leading experts on pediatric emergency medicine and has had several papers published on the topics of family-centered care and remedies for ED overcrowding. Dr. Hernandez also serves as assistant clinical professor at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and the Florida State University College of Medicine.
Dr. Hernandez has served on multiple hospital, state and national committees, and has dedicated much time to develop processes for better communication with community physicians to ensure prompt and efficient care of their patients. One of his goals is to develop a product where quality of care and patient experience may serve as benchmarks to other institutions.
