As the first of its kind in Central Florida, the Nicholson Center for Surgical Advancement is a premier center for hands-on surgical instruction. The prime objective is to develop and disseminate cutting edge surgical knowledge and techniques to the global surgical community through state-of-the-art teleconferencing technology. Participants perform minimally invasive surgical procedures at one of nine state-of-the-art endoscopically equipped stations.
The NCSA serves as a living laboratory for healthcare change and is an international show site for telesurgery and teleconferencing. At the center of the Nicholson Center for Surgical Advancement is the matchless teleconferencing technology that links four environments:
Surgical learning laboratory
Global connectivity with any outside venue
Each learning station mirrors a typical surgery suite and is outfitted with teleconferencing technology. This integration allows connectivity with any external environment and is an ideal distance-learning module. Collectively, these components represent the ideal surgical-learning environment supporting the highest quality learning experience. The entire interactive surgical learning experience may be captured on videotape or CD media, and then offered to the worldwide market of surgical professions. In addition, the education center allows for symposiums of up to 150 participants on-site with unlimited potential for global teleconferencing.
The setting of the Nicholson Center for Surgical Advancement is one in which participants gain hands-on knowledge and understanding of specific techniques as well as how to properly use new equipment and technology. Participants of surgical educational courses will walk away mastering a newly learned minimally invasive surgical skill that will benefit them in their own medical practices. This dynamic setting allows for experimentation in which surgical industry innovators can bring equipment and educators to chart the course for future products and techniques. In this forum, surgeons, educators and industry partners significantly expend their knowledge and medical practice base in multiple surgical disciplines through educational workshops, conferences and symposiums.
